Know Your Rights SCV
Our mission is to ensure that the civil rights of Santa Clarita Valley residents, especially those of students, are protected and upheld. Incidents of harassment based on racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, etc. have remained prevalent within SCV for far too long.
The William S. Hart District as well as the Santa Clarita Community College District has frequently dealt with incidents of bullying — often related to attacks upon a student’s race, sexual orientation, religion, gender, etc. — in an improper manner. Recently, policies affecting the well-being of students (such as forced outing policies) have been discussed by the William S. Hart District. Students have rights that should be protected and upheld by their school administration.
Those residing in Santa Clarita outside of the school system also have rights that the city government should be expected to uphold. However, our city council has proven itself to be ignorant to the issues brought forward by residents.
We are concerned citizens, aiming to uplift our community by encouraging residents to learn their rights, and to know what to do when these rights are infringed upon.
